Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring is officially here! Along with warmer weather, blooming flowers, and extended daylight hours, the Spring season is also a time for cleaning–hence the popular phrase, “Spring cleaning”. Maintaining a tidy home is not only important for appearance’s sake, but it can also play a major role in your health and overall wellness.
Cleaning your home from top to bottom may sometimes seem like a daunting task. This is why we’ve come up with a few tips to help simplify that process. Check them out:
1. De-clutter your home. Before you can start to really clean your home, the first thing you should do is de-clutter it. Go room by room and decide what you need or want to keep, and what you can do without. Be sure to carefully organize the items that you decide to keep and label them so that they are easy to locate when you need to use them. Then, you can focus on the items that you are ready to part with. Shred unnecessary papers, bag up old clothing, and box up books, toys, appliances, and other items that you no longer use or need. De-cluttering every area in your home will allow for more space and a cleaner appearance.
2. Deep clean your appliances. Most people tend to focus on countertops, floors, furniture and other elements when cleaning, but often times they neglect appliances. Ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines, dryers, etc. need to be deep cleaned too. This is especially true since most of these items are used to store or prepare food. In addition, deep cleaning your appliances on a regular basis can help them operate more efficiently and last longer. Before cleaning the appliances be sure that they are completely turned off and unplugged if possible.
3. Rid your home of dust and mold. Over time, elements such as dust and mold can start to take over your home, especially if it isn’t being properly cleaned on a regular basis. To rid your home of dust, be sure to vacuum frequently (if possible, with the windows open so that airborne dust can escape), wipe down every surface in the home (don’t forget about window seals, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and other hard-to-reach areas), change sheets on a regular basis, and wipe down furniture with upholstery cleaner. Getting rid of mold is also important, especially since being exposed to mold for long periods of time can lead to a variety of illnesses and/or worsen and pre-existing conditions you or a household member may have. Since mold is a living fungus, the best way to get rid of it is to call a professional that has experience with killing and removing it. Trying to remove the mold yourself is a risk not worth taking.
